Method

  1. 1

Chill the glasses. Freeze the glasses for 10 minutes so the shake stays thick.

  2. 2

Whip the cream. Whisk the cream with the icing sugar to soft peaks and keep it cold.

  3. 3

Decorate. Drizzle a little chocolate syrup inside the glasses if you like.

  4. 4

Blend. Blend the ice cream, milk and syrup in short bursts for 15-20 seconds, just until smooth.

  5. 5

Serve. Pour into the glasses, top with whipped cream and drink straight away.

Storage

Best drunk immediately. It does not keep; leftover shake can be frozen in ice-lolly moulds.

Caffeine · Free sugars

Caffeine
  • Per serving: about 7 mg caffeine (serving: 1 glass). Source: 200 g chocolate ice cream × USDA FDC SR Legacy #168809 (3 mg/100 g) plus about 20 g chocolate syrup × #174117 (6 mg/100 g).
  • Scaling: making more servings does not change the caffeine in each serving; what counts is how many servings you drink in a day. 1 serving: 7 mg · 2 servings: 14 mg · 3 servings: 21 mg · 4 servings: 28 mg.
  • General guideline: EFSA Scientific Opinion on the safety of caffeine (2015): for healthy adults, up to 200 mg in a single dose and up to 400 mg per day do not raise safety concerns. 1 serving = 2 % of 400 mg. EFSA
